Housed in the historic Mills Community House, The Benzonia Public Library has been serving residents of and visitors to Benzie County since 1925.

Lending Library

The library is open to the public six days per week beginning at 10 am. A library card is necessary to borrow materials, and everyone with a home address is eligible for a card. To apply for a library card, please present your driver's license and proof of residence address.

The collection includes over 20,000 items for children and adults including books, large print, audio books, music, DVDs, and magazines. The library also participates in Mel, a statewide interlibrary loan program so that all of your information needs can be met. The loan period is three weeks for most materials, and one week for DVDs.

Visiting Patrons from libraries participating in the MeLCat Visiting Patron option may also borrow library materials.

Benzonia Public Library has expanded its services with eBooks, audiobooks, music, and video available to download on personal devices. Library card holders with active library cards at Benzonia Public Library can borrow popular digital media anytime, anywhere by visiting and clicking on the link for OverDrive Download or by signing in at (have your library card handy!)

More than 35 libraries in northern lower Michigan have banded together to create the Up North Digital Collection to offer online borrowing of eBooks, audiobooks, music, and videos purchased specifically for remote use. Not everything you ever wanted to read is here, but there are almost 9000 eBooks, over 1500 audiobooks, 120 music albums, and 112 videos.

Users may enjoy reading on all major computers and devices, including iPhone®, iPad®, Nook®, Android
(TM) phones and tablets, and Kindle®. eBooks can be read immediately on any device with an internet browser or downloaded to a device. All titles will automatically expire at the end of the lending period. There are no late fees!

OverDrive is simple and easy to use, but we will offer regularly scheduled tech help for learning how to download. This tech help will be available on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 12pm to 2pm at Benzonia Public Library.

We are so excited to be able to take this digital leap and offer this service to our patrons!! We would also like to thank the Friends of Benzonia Public Library for the funding to make this possible.
